Have an article read aloud from its link
Paste the address of an article or a course page: Readotte keeps the title and the main text, leaves out menus, ads and comments, then reads it to you.
Listen to your document
Free, no account: about 10 minutes of listening a day. The text is extracted and read by our servers in Europe.
free listening, Plus at €3.99 a month
Links that work best
- An article, not a home page
Paste the address of the article itself. A page that is only a list of links has no article to extract.
- A public page
Readotte downloads the page like a visitor without an account. An article for subscribers only, or a login page, will not give any text.
- Wikipedia and course sites
Interface symbols and note references like [12] are removed from the reading.
The steps
- 1. Add Paste the link in the article link tab. The text appears in a few seconds.
- 2. Listen Press play: the current sentence is highlighted, and so is the word being spoken. Tap a sentence to jump to it.
- 3. Adjust Speed from 0.75× to 3×, your choice of voice, and pitch, warmth and clarity settings on the Voices page.
- 4. Pick up later The document stays in your library: reading resumes at the sentence where you stopped.
What the tool does well, and what it misses
- Good: just the main text Menus, ads and comments are set aside so only the article remains.
- Good: language detected An English article is read by an English voice, a French one by a French voice. You can change the language if it is guessed wrong.
- Worth knowing: paywalls and logins Anything that needs an account is out of Readotte's reach.
- Worth knowing: very heavy pages A page over 5 MB is refused, and a page with no readable article is flagged.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have a password-protected page read aloud?
No. Copy the text of the page instead and paste it in the text tab: it will be read the same way.
Is the article saved?
Yes, its text stays in your library with the original link, so you can resume later. You can delete it at any time.
Is it free?
Yes. Without an account you get about 10 minutes of listening a day. Readotte Plus (€3.99 a month, no commitment) removes the daily limit, within a fair use of about 20 hours a month, and adds MP3 download.
